Kenny and Heidi Strahm of Montgomery, Alabama arrived on the Disney Magic cruise liner into Kirkwall on Thursday ( 9 June) to spring a huge surprise to family members and friends travelling with them, by planning to get secretly married in Kirkwall that day.
Their group were led to believe by Kenny and Heidi, that they were on a private tour of Kirkwall when a horse and carriage arrived alongside the cruise liner to collect them. When the bride and groom walked down the gangway, the cat was out of the bag. The happy couple and their party were then driven to Tankerness House Gardens in Kirkwall where the ceremony took place amid glorious afternoon sunshine.
Kirkwall City Pipe Band and a local dance group were by the ship to greet them when they returned, and the Deputy Harbour Master ( Operations) and Meet and Greet Supervisor Samantha Berston presented them with an engraved plaque on behalf of the Harbour Authority.
