Dart Harbour and FOCL boost learn to sail programme

14 August 2025

Dart Harbour is delighted to share that the visit of Fred.Olsen’s Balmoral to Dartmouth in June assisted funding for local children. £2.20 pp of the passenger fee has been donated by the Authority towards a learning to sail programme.

Dart Harbour is already involved in an initiative with Dartmouth Indoor Pool Trust to bring swimming lessons to a number of local schools. So now, in addition to this collaboration, thanks to Dartmouth’s cruise programme, additional funding can be extended.

It is planned to continue with these schemes in order to encourage a whole new generation to learn how to safely enjoy both the beautiful River Dart and its coastline.

Harbour Master Paul Britton says “Our cruise guests all enjoy exploring the stunning natural playground of the Dart.  Knowing that their visit is also helping disadvantaged young people to do the same just adds a little flourish of sustainability to their visit.  We have adjusted our fee structure to ensure that our port costs have not been increased by this initiative, so cruise lines can enjoy the benefits too!”
