New tender berths for direct access to Dartmouth excursion destinations

Greenway House, home of Agatha Christie.

2 December 2025

Dart Harbour have recently upgraded the tendering options for cruise ships visiting Dartmouth.

Greenway House, home of Agatha Christie.

Alongside the main tender pontoon in the heart of Dartmouth, with berths for two tenders, ISPS certified tender landing facilities at two of our biggest excursion destinations – Agatha Christie’s Greenway House, and Kingswear Steam Railway Station – are offered.

In addition, for vessels that use Zodiac-style tenders, there is a new tender berth in the heart of town specially designed for these tenders, with a low freeboard for a safe and easy disembarkation.

Greenway House was the ‘Queen of Crime’s summer home, a beautiful manor house located in stunning gardens on the banks of the Dart, a twenty minute scenic ferry or tender ride from Dartmouth.  Its history dates back to the time of Sir Walter Raleigh, who moored his ship in the river here.  Agatha Christie set many of her crime thrillers at Greenway, and cruise guests love visiting the scenes of some of their famous fictitious murders!

The Dartmouth Steam Railway is a popular tour.  The railway runs from the newly designated tender berth at Kingswear Station, just a few hundred metres from the ship’s moorings, along the wooded river bank, and then over viaducts and through tunnels to reach the coastline.  It is often combined with a boat trip along the Dart and visit to the historic market town of Totnes to make an excellent excursion.

The new facilities will allow cruise lines to take their guests directly to these excursion locations, with no need for coaches.
