On Friday 18 May M/V Marco Polo, the first cruise vessel for 2012, season called at Milford Shelf with 669 passengers plus crew.
Marco Polo's cruise itinerary around the UK started in Newcastle and the vessel will visit Hornfleur, St. Helier (Jersey); St. Mary's (Isles of Scilly), Belfast, Isle of Mull, Orkney Islands and Invergordon. Passengers will be visiting Carew Castle, Pembroke, Tenby and St. Davids as well as local sites.
Originally Marco Polo was built as one of five sister ships for the Russian/Ukrainian fleet and designed for the transatlantic route from Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) to Montreal in 1966. Her original name was Aleksandr Pushkin. Since this time it has passed through several lines including Norwegian Cruise Line and then to Transocean. Transocean have now chartered the vessel to Cruise and Maritime Voyages.
