GAC appointed by Poseidon Expeditions

GAC UK has been appointed as the national agent for Poseidon Expeditions  to take care of the 114-passenger ‘Sea Spirit’ from the Scilly Isles in the south to the coast of Scotland in the north.

Poseidon Expeditions is the latest cruise company to select GAC UK as its agent, joining other operators such as Ponant, Fred Olsen and Grand Circle Cruise Line. GAC UK has seen a 300% increase in cruise calls for 2019, along with the expansion of the range of its cruise products to include baggage distribution and ground handling services.

Investment to transform Portsmouth Port

Portsmouth’s cruise dream to handle up to 100 calls has been given a real boost following a £18.7m investment to transform the port. Recognised by The Guardian as one of the UK’s top destinations to visit in 2019 there has never been a better time to capitalise on the city’s position as a must-see location.

Recent developments at the Port are not only limited to infrastructure, a new senior management team has been created to drive forward ambitions; business development manager Ian Palacio is joined by head of operations Ian Diaper to concentrate on cruise.

Cruise & Conference tourism project boosts tourism for Southampton and Plymouth

Led by Southampton City Council the Leisure Excursions for Cruise and Conference in Southern England has made big strides to boost tourism for the ports of Southampton and Plymouth.

The partnership, which includes Associated British Ports, Southampton Cultural Development Trust, Visit Hampshire, Go Southampton, Destination Southampton and Destination Plymouth has worked to develop a range of itineraries for visiting cruise lines that will showcase all the cultural and historical attractions in and around the cities of Southampton and Plymouth.

Solent Stevedores invests in the future of cruise at Southampton

Solent Stevedores has recently taken delivery of 33 fully electric counter balance fork lift trucks from Still Materials Handling in preparation for the 2019 cruise season at the Port of Southampton.

This latest investment by the company which currently provides a service for over 80% of the cruise vessels calling in Southampton, has been made to further improve safety for operators, increase efficiency for customers and reduce emissions.

Celebrating 20 years of cruise at Port of Tyne

2019 marks 20 years since the Port of Tyne welcomed its first cruise call, Cunard’s Royal Viking Sun on 30 August 1999. Since that day, the Port has welcomed over 450 calls, from 60 cruise lines and over 700,000 cruise passengers.

This year is set to be the fourth record breaking year in a row with 59 calls. With its excellent connectivity to Norway, the Baltics, Iceland and many more, the Port of Tyne has become one of the most popular cruise ports in the UK.

Launch of joint venture on the river Thames

MBNA Thames Clippers, London’s fastest and most frequent fleet, is officially launching its joint venture with Port of Tilbury, London Cruise and Yacht, at Seatrade.

MBNA Thames Clippers’ role in the collaboration includes handling all ship to shore transfers from London cruise moorings at Greenwich Ship Tier, Tower Bridge Upper and George’s Stair Tier. With 42 calls into the capital this year, MBNA Thames Clippers will include deployment of Venus Clipper, their newest high-speed catamaran, to transfer cruise guests in comfort and style. There is also the option of sightseeing cruises with their regular services or private charters.

Expansion at International Friends

International Friends (part of GTi Travel Group) have expanded their pre and post cruise transfer offerings for 2019, and also launched a 4 day pre and post cruise London package. With private and shared options available from London, Heathrow, Southampton and Dover, all with door to door service, transfers can be combined with a visit to Stonehenge, Windsor Castle, Bath, Cotswolds, Dover Castle and Warner Bros Studio Tour London The Making of Harry Potter.

Poole plans for the future and remembers D-Day

Exciting times lie ahead for the Port of Poole as they put Poole on the map as a hub for cruise ships, look to triple their numbers of cruise calls and commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
