Developments for Guernsey, Channel Islands
A new exclusive arrival area has arrived! Sole use of arrival ramp is now available for alongside berthing, enabling ships up to 134m (LOA) to come alongside Guernsey Harbour for easy passenger disembarkation – removing the need for tenders and ideal for boutique ships.
New art and culture trails have been launched for artists Turner, Renoir and Victor Hugo, who created masterpieces while in the Islands. The Channel Islands were the only occupied part of the British Isles during the Second World War. New heritage themed tours available, fortifications restored and re-opened to coincide with the island 80th anniversary of Liberation.

SCH has announced the renewal of its Cruise Services contract with Portsmouth, securing operations for up to the next 10 years. This continued partnership highlights SCH’s commitment to delivering professional stevedoring services and supporting Portsmouth’s growing cruise ambitions. The Port is on track for a record-breaking year.
In addition, SCH has been awarded ISO accreditations, reinforcing its commitment to quality, sustainability, safety, and information security. SCH is a leading stevedoring provider across major UK ports and the contract renewal reflects the strong partnership and trust between SCH and the port.

Sustainability is key for Portsmouth
Sustainability will be a key feature of the busiest cruise year yet at Portsmouth International Port, with the debut of the UK’s first ground-breaking shore power system set to provide clean energy for multiple vessels across multiple berths at the same time.
Works are currently underway to complete the Sea Change project which will allow cruise and ferry vessels to plug in to clean electricity, improving air quality and reducing emissions for the city. Portsmouth is on track to become one of the UK’s first zero emission ports by 2050.

Excursions Ltd launches first Sustainability Report
January 2025 saw Britain’s specialist luxury shore excursions company launch its first Sustainability report detailing the initiatives Excursions Ltd are taking. The report follows the company’s success in becoming certified by Travelife for excellence in sustainability during 2023.
New CEO, Nathan Philpot, provides the introduction to the report and acknowledges the role that all have, influencing the entire supply chain, whether speaking with clients or crucially procuring services from smaller suppliers. Excursions Ltd are also proud to share that more than 15% of the company now hold certificates in Sustainability personally, including all of their Board of Directors.

Solent Stevedores achieves certification
Following a thorough external auditing process by a UKAS accredited body, Solent Stevedores’ team in Southampton has been successful in achieving certification for ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. All cruise stevedoring activities in Southampton covering occupational health and safety, quality and environmental management systems are recognised as operating at the highest international standards.
As part of ongoing investment into cruise infrastructure and facilities, Solent Stevedores has committed to a further 5 new JCB Telehandler Forklifts and fitting dash cams to boost the security and safety on all equipment. Remote control vehicle barriers have also been installed at Ocean Cruise Terminal in Southampton with a view to rolling out to the remaining terminals.

Portland looks ahead to 2025 cruise season
Portland Port in Dorset is looking ahead to a bumper 2025 after it welcomed more than 110,000 passengers from 100 different countries, on 52 cruise ships, from 18 cruise lines during 2024. The port is scheduled to receive more than 60 cruise ships during 2025, including five turnaround calls by the luxury Hebridean Island Cruises’ Hebridean Princess.
This year will be the fourth consecutive season since Covid that the port has received over 50 calls and 100,000 guests. It will also be a record call number for a normal cruise season. There will be a number of inaugural ship visits as well as the first ever calls by luxury cruise line Silversea and expedition cruise line Albatros Expeditions.

Global Ports Holding expands UK network with Greenock Cruise Port
Global Ports Holding Ltd. (GPH), the world’s largest cruise port operator, has announced that it has signed a 50-year agreement with Clydeport Operations Limited, a subsidiary of Peel Ports Group, to operate Greenock Cruise Port. This agreement marks GPH’s entry into Scotland and further strengthens its presence in the UK.
Following the addition of Liverpool Cruise Port in April 2024, GPH’s first UK operation, the inclusion of Greenock further expands the company’s growing footprint in Northern Europe. This enhances GPH’s strategic position in key cruise itineraries connecting the UK, Ireland, and the Nordic countries.

Aberdeen set for historic year in tourism
CruiseAberdeenshire, a partnership between Port of Aberdeen and VisitAberdeenshire, is preparing for a landmark year with nearly a 30% surge in cruise calls and the return of world-famous Tall Ships Races. Port of Aberdeen is set to host 63 cruise calls during the 2025 season, running from April to September, welcoming up to 40,000 guests.
Major cruise line Viking will kick off the season with the arrival of Viking Vela on the 3 April and is set to make multiple visits throughout the season, highlighting Aberdeen’s rising status as a must-visit destination.

Asuka II wins Port of Dover’s 8th safety and environment award (SEA)
The SEA Award for cruise lines, led by the Port of Dover, has been awarded to NYK’s Asuka II, with Seabourn Ovation and Viking Venus also scoring highly. The project is a key element of Dover’s drive to be the first UK port to reach carbon net zero for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by the end of this year and increase recycling rates.
