Love Boat On Tyne

The Deutschland cruise ship, star of the hit German TV show Das Traumschiff (The Dream Ship) – is due to sail in to the Port of Tyne – the UK’s Best Port of Call on Friday (6 July).

The series has run for more than 30 years and is shown across the world.  Based on the US series The Love Boat, the Deutschland has provided the location for the programme over the last 13 years.   Rather than looking for romance passengers will be taking in the sites of North East England, visiting Newcastle City Centre, Hadrian’s Wall, and Alnwick Gardens & Castle.

Germany’s most famous luxury cruise ship is operated by Peter Deilmann and the 12 day cruise has visited Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Scotland, and The Netherlands. Mike Nicholson, Port of Tyne Harbour Master said: “We are pleased that another new cruise operator has been encouraged to visit the Port of Tyne – making a record 37 cruise calls in total for 2012. I wish the ship, her passengers and crew a very warm welcome, I’m sure they will make the most of their time in Port visiting many popular tourist attractions.”

The Deutschland is styled like an Art Deco Grand Hotel, and cruise operator Peter Deilmann, offer cruise holidays to world-wide destinations.
Konstantin Bissias, Managing Director of Peter Deilmann said: “North East England has wonderful medieval castles and cathedrals nestled amongst beautiful landscapes, we are looking forward to including this trip to the region as part of our cruise programme.”

After returning to Germany the Deutschland is sailing off to the Olympics, and will be the official hospitality ship for the German Olympic committee during London 2012.
