The Port of Tyne is expecting a record 37 cruise calls this year and the eighth cruise call of the season arrived this week at the Port’s Northumbrian Quay in North Shields.
The Marco Polo is operating a turnaround call. Over 800 passengers will embark on a 14 night cruise holiday departing from the Port of Tyne to explore the Highlands and Islands of the British Isles. Operated by Cruise and Maritime Voyages the Marco Polo is an elegant and traditional cruise ship, with numerous bars, restaurants, a spa, library, card room and a spectacular show lounge.
Steven Harrison, Port of Tyne Chief Operating Officer said: “We are very pleased to welcome more ships from Cruise and Maritime Voyages, and are looking forward to seeing the Ocean Countess back next year with 5 more cruise calls. Our cruise and ferry business added £45 million to the regional economy in 2011 and with a record account of ships visiting this season we expect this will grow significantly this year.”
